When Peggy and her family moved to Crowborough she started teaching at Rusthall Junior Girl's school where she specialised in music.

She remained teaching there until she retired in 1979, and formed a choir and band with recorders who often practised after school and who took part in the end-of-term school plays.

She also soon joined the Royal Tunbridge Wells Symphony Orchestra where she led the 2nd violin section for many years.
