Retirement and a more solitary but very busy life

1980 - 2000

Peggy missed Doug terribly and she had already retired but she kept herself busy by doing OU courses and continued her chamber music playing. She was also writing stories, poems and started to write about the family history.

She always kept busy, giving private piano lessons.

She moved to Langton Green to a bungalow which she slowly and surely got round to her taste. She spent long hours designing and creating a lovely garden around it with pond and summer-house eventually.

She also enjoyed her grandchildren's company, Matthew and Rebecca, after they finished primary school and had many a duet on the piano with Matthew. They lived just up the road in the family cottage which had been in the family since the early 1900s.

She was continuing to play in the Royal Tunbridge Wells Symphony Orchestra for many years hence till around 2005. She had started to play in the orchestra in 1960 - 1961!

She played the piano for music sessions at Rusthall Elms which at that time was a day centre for mentally challenged people and later helped with music classes at Fordcombe Primary school where she became firm friends with Ann Dawson, the headmistress, and they enjoyed quite a few holidays together.
