Childhood memories of Queens Road

Created by Gilly 5 years ago

I loved visiting  Auntie Peg and Uncle Douglas in their ‘huge’ house in Queens Road. We were treated to live music with Uncle Douglas on cello accompanied by Auntie Peg on the piano. I remember th e floor to ceiling book collections and the beautiful string puppets that we were allowed to play with. The house was always full of paintings and drawings. It was so different to our modern 1960s house ; it was like stepping into a classic childrens novel. Auntie Peg made us feel so welcome with Ribena and fondant fancies.

Many years later visiting Peg in LangtonGreen was just as much a treat. She was generous and kind. She loved talking about her family, her garden and her precious museum. She was very inspiring and Im quite sure changed the lives of many pupils she taught and people who had the pleasure of getting to know her.
